Busoga Kingdom Rallies Behind Census Initiative for Informed Governance

Against the backdrop of Bugembe’s majestic palace, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, issued a compelling call to action: embrace the forthcoming national census, slated to commence on May 10, 2024.

In a historic meeting with Dr. Chris Mukiza, the esteemed Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the Kyabazinga underscored the significance of census participation in shaping informed governance and equitable resource allocation. “Let us unite in support of the census, for it serves as a vital tool in understanding the needs of our people and guiding development initiatives,” urged the monarch.

Expressing gratitude for UBOS’s collaboration, the Kyabazinga warmly welcomed the establishment of a dedicated statistical office at the kingdom headquarters, recognizing its potential to enhance local capacity for data-driven decision-making.

Dr. Mukiza echoed the sentiment, reaffirming UBOS’s commitment to conducting a transparent and inclusive census process. Emphasizing data security, Mukiza assured, “We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the privacy of all individuals, with stringent measures in place to protect sensitive information.”

As preparations for the digital census gained momentum, Mukiza unveiled innovative strategies to streamline data collection and authentication. Enumerators will be equipped with identification tags featuring QR codes, facilitating efficient verification and minimizing the risk of identity fraud.

Furthermore, in a demonstration of mutual empowerment, UBOS pledged to establish a dedicated statistics office unit at the kingdom headquarters, equipped with essential resources and staffed by locally nominated statisticians. This collaborative initiative aims to equip the Busoga Kingdom with the tools and expertise needed to harness the power of data for sustainable development and inclusive governance.

As the countdown to the census commenced, the partnership between UBOS and the Busoga Kingdom symbolized a shared commitment to leveraging data for the betterment of all residents, heralding a new era of informed governance and progress.
