Alternative Targets and Strategic Calculations

While Kharg Island is seen as the primary target, analysts suggest the US could also consider other Iranian-held islands near the Strait of Hormuz.

These include Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunb islands, which are strategically located along key shipping routes. Although smaller and less economically significant than Kharg, they offer strong positions for controlling maritime traffic.

However, these islands are also highly sensitive due to longstanding territorial disputes, particularly with the United Arab Emirates.

Any attempt to seize them would still cross a major red line for Iran and could provoke a strong military response.

This leaves US decision-makers with a difficult choice—target a high-value economic asset like Kharg or pursue alternative options that carry their own risks
