MK Movement Rebranded: NUP Lawmaker’s Perspective on Patriotic League Formation

The rebranding of the Muhoozi Kainerugaba Movement (MK Movement) into the Patriotic League of Uganda was recently scrutinized by Honorable Aisha Kabanda, the Member of Parliament representing Butambala district for the National Unity Platform. During a televised interview, Kabanda provided her insights into the rationale behind this transformation, depicting the MK Movement as an offshoot of the ruling NRM party’s efforts to engage with the youth demographic.

Having previously been affiliated with the NRM, Kabanda underscored the party’s acknowledgment of its diminishing influence among the youth. She suggested that the decision to foreground Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba aimed to address this gap. However, Kabanda expressed reservations about Muhoozi’s ability to authentically connect with the concerns of the youth, given his age and background.
