In Mexico’s flood-ravaged town of Poza Rica, families wade through waist-deep water searching for what remains of their homes — and for missing loved ones. Days of unrelenting rain turned neighborhoods into rivers, sweeping away lives, vehicles, and entire livelihoods.
Among the victims were a man, a young woman, and a child who drowned when rising waters trapped them inside their home near the river. Across the region, stories like theirs echo through communities buried in mud and grief.
More than 66 people are confirmed dead, with 75 still missing. Thousands remain displaced, and local business owners say years of hard work were destroyed in hours. “Everything was flooded — the kitchen, the dining area, even the games room,” said one café owner. “No one was prepared for this.”
Rescue operations continue as residents demand accountability and faster aid. For many, rebuilding their homes and lives will take months — if not years.
